Spar UK has promoted Tina Hird to the position of trading controller, after a restructure of the Spar trading department.
The shake-up has combined the Spar brand and proprietary buying functions to provide an overall category approach. The restructure over the past 18 months has included the introduction of the Brand of Choice process, through which Spar aims to reinvigorate its own-label products.
Hird has been with Spar since December 1998 and was formerly senior trading manager. She started off at Budgens as an assistant buyer in fresh foods, then moved in 1984 to the Leicester Co-operative Society, where she became marketing manager for fresh and frozen.
Before joining Spar, Hird had spent a number of years running a sandwich and deli shop near Sheffield.
Mark Keeley, Spar trading director, said: “This is a very well deserved promotion. Tina has made a significant contribution to the business.”
