Tenuous celebrity-grocery crossover of the week: Slumdog Millionaire auteur Danny Boyle transports his filmmaking trophies around in a supermarket carrier.

“He turned up last Sunday with a plastic bag and I thought he had been to Asda,” family friend/hanger-on Albert Waters told the Press Association, inadvertently revealing how Boyle saves enough cash on his food bill to fund independent British movies.

“He pulled the Bafta and the Golden Globe out and they were wrapped up in a dirty old scarf so he wouldn't scratch them. It was so funny because honestly I did think he'd been shopping.”

However, Boyle – an Oscar winner after this week’s Hollywood bunfight – is reportedly set to upgrade to a Sainsbury’s bag-for-life to bring back his new statuette.
