Tesco’s group trading law and technical director John Longworth is moving to take up a similar post at Asda.

Longworth will join in November as executive board director for external affairs. His responsibilities will include government relations and lobbying, commerce and employment law, consumer and corporate affairs and environmental issues.

Before he worked for Tesco his other jobs included health and safety commissioner and parliamentary consultant. He reports directly to president and ceo Tony DeNunzio.

Longworth replaces corporate counsel and company secretary Denise Jagger, who has decided on a career change after 11 years with Asda. Jagger was instrumental in Asda’s restructure in the early 1990s.

She played a key role during Wal-Mart’s acquisition of the multiple and in developing Asda’s colleague share schemes.
