Tesco has been forced to delay the openings of its first two standalone Tesco Express convenience stores. The first site, due to open in Southborough near Tunbridge Wells this month (The Grocer, June 15) will not now open until December 9. A spokeswoman said the delay has occurred as the site, a disused petrol station, has to be cleared. The second Express will now open in East Wittering, West Sussex, on February 3, not on the original scheduled date in November. This Express will replace a derelict store in a local parade of shops, and Tesco has to refurbish it and sell off the flats above it before it can open. The third standalone Express will be in Manchester, but no opening dates have been confirmed. {{NEWS }}
