Tesco has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to provide a range of BBC programmes to its free streaming service for Clubcard users.

Coming a month after the launch of Clubcard TV, powered by Tesco’s Blinkbox service, the deal will see comedies including Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Goodness Gracious Me and Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression join the line-up, alongside children’s programmes Stig of the Dump and The Secret Garden.

It comes as competition for the streaming market goes into overdrive with Spotify reportedly weighing a video offering to challenge the likes of Blinkbox, Netflix and LoveFilm.

“With this deal we’re adding a raft of new TV titles to our expanding catalogue, providing access to even more great digital entertainment in a way that’s easy and accessible for customers,” said Clubcard TV managing director Scott Deutrom.

“We’re thrilled to have concluded such an extensive deal with Clubcard TV which will offer their customers a rich range of fantastic British content,” added Lisa Rousseau, head of UK, Ireland and Pan European television sales at BBC Worldwide.

The package includes cookery shows featuring chefs such as Antonio Carluccio, Ken Hom and Gary Rhodes.
