Tesco and a French supermarket are both eyeing a plot of land in Jersey for a move on to the island, according to sources.
The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, who owns the 125-year lease on the Westmount Quarry site, is considering selling the plot to developers Royston Leigh for at least £3m.
Jersey officials have reportedly been courting a number of retail chains, including Tesco and a French supermarket chain as prospective tenants. None has so far made a decision.
Tesco and Carrefour have both been in discussions with Channel Island officials about establishing outlets there (The Grocer, June 4, p8).
Earlier this month, senator Philip Ozouf said that major discount chain were also being approached as potential entrants to Jersey (The Grocer, November 12, p8).
