Tesco has launched an online diet club to rival Weight Watchers following the early success of its eDiets business.

It is promoting its Totals diet alongside worldwide slimmers' favourites such as the Mediterranean, GI and Atkins diets.

The eating plan, which allows you to personalise your shopping list with food from Tesco, works in a similar way to Weight Watchers' points diet, allocating a daily allowance of Totals to subscribers.

Dieters can eat products such as chocolate or drink wine as long as they do not exceed their Totals points for the day.

The service also offers weekly online weigh-ins, community boards and chat rooms, as well as creating weekly meal plans.

Tesco is now offering 1,000 Clubcard points to dieters who subscribe to any of its 15 diet plans.

Tesco first launched eDiets in 2004 when it acquired the UK and Ireland licence for the service from a US online diet business.
