Co-op has opened its largest pop-up store yet at London’s Barking Riverside development.
The 1,500 sq ft store will temporarily serve the community at the new residential hub until the convenience retailer’s new permanent location opens at a later phase of the development.
It has been supplied by Worcestershire-based modular retail expert Rapid Retail, on an initial three-year basis. The unit has been completed with shop floor fittings, refrigeration, shelving and tills, including self-serve. The back-of-house area has a cold room and bakery facilities.
Co-op said there would be a focus on fresh for shoppers, including ready meals and food to go, as well as everyday essentials, alcohol, and free-from, vegan and plant-based products.
It also has customer car parking, a Fairtrade coffee machine, bakery, PayPoint and Lottery, with Deliveroo available for home delivery. Amazon parcel collection is set to come soon for “added ease and convenience”, the retailer added.
The pop-up is open every day 7am to 10pm.
