The initiative will be running on 21 and 22 August with more than 150 Scottish convenience stores taking part

Snappy Shopper is launching a two-day promotion in Scotland on packed-lunch supplies for 1p.

The grocery delivery app said it would help to ease the expense for families who are preparing for their children returning to school amid the cost of living crisis.

It will be running on 21 and 22 August, following a trial period, and will include packed-lunch staples such as multipack crisps, multipack yogurts, bananas or multipack apples, multipack juices, a 400g loaf of bread and 100g of cold meat.

More than 150 Scottish convenience stores are taking part in the initiative. During the trial, One Stop Yew Tree lane offered 1p bread, milk and laundry detergent over the first weekend in August and found the number of weekly orders had increased by 141% week-on-week. Stores tested in Fife also saw their daily orders more than double.

New and existing customers can access the 1p delivered goods via the app or through the website. The promotion is collectively estimated to save families tens of thousands of pounds.

Both Snappy Shopper and the participating retailers will pick up the cost of the promotion. The grocery delivery app is also investing in marketing to raise awareness of the promotional campaign.

“We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with our fantastic retailers across Scotland to help all our hard-working parents with some of the costs associated with our children’s return to school,” said Snappy Shopper co-founder Scott Campbell.

“It is no secret that the cost of living has been increasing and many families are starting to feel the pinch. Our generous retailers have agreed to share the cost of providing a selection of packed lunch products for just a penny. We hope as many families as possible take advantage of this incredible offer.”

Premier Nethergate owner Umayr Asif said: “We are thrilled to partner with Snappy Shopper on this back-to-school promotion and support families in our community. With the rising cost of food and daily essentials this offer will go a long way. We’re excited for the launch of the promotion and hope customers are too!”
