Crisps and snacks have remained consistent in the overall category chart remaining in 9th and 10th place accounting for approximately 4% of all featured space promotional activity recorded. The dominant brands in this category include Golden ­Wonder, Pringles and Walkers.

Walkers accounted for 38%, 33% and 35% of activity in this category over the last three issues, Golden Wonder accounted for 22%, 18% and 26% and Pringles 14%, 18% and 13%.

Walkers, this week, has promotions across four of the top five retailers, with Walkers Sensations and new Baked Walkers products. All brands and retailers use the x for y mechanic, with Tesco having Baked Walkers 6-pack on an introductory offer of 98p.

Golden Wonder's offers include 100% extra free on a 12 pack of crisps, special price on its 15-pack of Golden Wonder Lights in Morrisons and 2 for £1.50 on its Nik Naks range in Asda.

Mini Pringles were on promotion in Somerfield and Morrisons, both with the 5-pack using buy-one-get-one-free. Gourmet Pringles were on offer in Morrisons and Sainsbury's using the x for y mechanic but with Sainsbury's offer being 2 for £1.80 and Morrisons having 2 for £1.60.

Other brands of note in this category, sharing the space with the bigger players are McCoy's and KP. McCoy's crisps 6-pack was on offer in Morrisons and Somerfield with buy-one-get-one-free. KP Skips and Frisps were on offer in Somerfield and Morrisons, respectively, both with 100% extra free

Looking at the overall activity chart, Nestlé was the top brand this week, with activity monitored across six categories: biscuits/cakes, chilled, confectionery, dairy, frozen and grocery. The only retailer not to have any Nestlé brands on featured space promotion was Somerfield.

Nestlé's cereal brands, including Shredded Wheat, Honey Nut ­Cheerios, Fitness and Honey Nut Shreddies, continue to be prominently displayed using x for y in Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's and Extra Free in Tesco.
