Compostable packaging,
described as a first for the UK seafood industry, has been launched by Dawnfresh Seafoods.
Easy-peel, jumbo, ready-to-eat prawns, sourced from Thailand, have gone on sale in Asda stores under a six-month exclusive deal.
The prawns are being sold in packaging that is made from compostable or bio-degradable materials. The tray and lid material had previously only been used on dry goods, but Dawnfresh, Asda and packagers RHP have adapted it for use in wet products.
The prawns will be marketed under The All Natural Seafood Company brand.
