
Champion: Sainsbury’s Lean Diced Beef – Vacuum packaging
Creating the peelable, recyclable solution for this Sainsbury’s own-label SKU took supplier ABP Beef over 18 months, as developers trialled multiple materials and iterations, working hand in hand with supply chain partners across materials, machinery and its own engineering teams to optimise the end result.
The reduced pack size (-46%) saves some 353,457 cubic metres of packaging annually and reduces transport requirements by 54%. “These packs are a welcome step change in the industry, reducing pack size, saving plastic and saving shelf space for the consumer,” said our judges. “It’s excellent to see this type of innovation being extended.”
