Champion: Pork Farms – Mini Melton Mowbray Pork Pies
As a product that carries protected geographical indication (PGI) status, there are quite a few hoops to jump through to qualify as an authentic Melton Mowbray pork pie. Pies must be made in a designated area surrounding Melton Mowbray and cooked in adherence to a strict recipe that includes hand-formed pastry, uncured pork and being baked free-standing without a mould.
Successfully meeting these high standards only serves to make Pork Farms’ mini Melton Mowbrays feel even more premium. “What a wonderful pork pie,” said our judges. “The packaging doesn’t do justice to the hand-rolled, genuine PGI proposition, taste and aroma. It’s fantastic value too.”
