Champion: itsu sweet and salty seaweed’snaps
This felt like a really grown-up snack, said our judges, with “a great balance of salty, sweet and delicious toasted seaweed flavour”.
To achieve its distinctive crunch, Itsu says it hasn’t relied on frying but instead uses a carefully layered process, coating sheets of nori with a light layer of sugar syrup before topping with pre-toasted pumpkin and sesame seeds. A final sheet of nori is placed on top, before the product is roasted to a perfect crisp. The product’s resealable 45g sharing pouch format was an added bonus, agreed judges, increasing the snack’s convenience and cutting out waste. “Overall, a very well-executed, innovative and delicious product.”
