Giles Brook: approaching the investment as a ‘partnership’

Vita Coco CEO Giles Brook has invested a six-figure sum into black-eyed pea based savoury snack company Bepps.

The “partnership” makes Brook the largest investor at the company and he said his money would go into marketing and working capital.

The startup, founded by Eve Yankah, launched its three-flavour range of puffed snacks in March. It is stocked by regional and national wholesalers, and is set to begin a “listing with a major national supermarket” later this year.

The funding will help launch Bepps nationally. Brook said he expected the company to scale up quickly, with opportunity for more investors to come on board.

“I am the main investor at this phase,” he said, “and as such, with the level of money I am putting in, I am very much approaching it as a partnership. It is moving into a very exciting space and we can positively disrupt and do some great things.”

The organic black-eyed peas for the vegan-friendly snacks are sourced directly from farmers in South America and West Africa, while the snacks are made and bagged in the UK.
