Small pieces of a thin blue rubber glove have been found in some jars

Cow & Gate has recalled one of its stage three meals due to fear of contamination by fragments of rubber.

A batch of 250ml Cheesy Broccoli Bake was being pulled off shelves “because small pieces of a thin blue rubber glove have been found in some jars” the babyfood brand said.

The recall concerns only packs with batch code 28122020 and best before date 28 December 2020. “No other batches of this product or any other Cow & Gate products are affected,” Cow & Gate added.

The affected jars did not pose a health risk, “but we are recalling them as they do not meet our usual high quality standards” the Danone-owned brand said.

“Nothing is more important to us than the quality and safety of our products. We are sorry that this happened, and would like to reassure parents that this is an isolated incident. Our factories maintain strict internationally-recognised standards, are regularly audited and meet all relevant European legislation.”

Point of sale notices would be displayed in all stores that sell the product, said the FSA. “These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

The agency advised shoppers to return the affected baby meal “to the store where it was bought, with or without a receipt, for a full refund”.
