The retailer has recalled all date codes of the product as listeria monocytogenes has been found in some of the products

Sainsbury’s has recalled its Taste the Difference Spanish Chorizo Iberico ring due to the presence of listeria.

The retailer has recalled all date codes of the product as listeria monocytogenes has been found in some of the products.

Symptoms caused by listeria can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle aches or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the product.

These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it, including returning the item to stores for a full refund.

No other Sainsbury’s products are known to be affected.

It comes as the Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland have warned about the presence of listeria monocytogenes in imported enoki mushrooms.

The safety watchdogs have advised pregnant women and those with a weakened immune system to thoroughly cook enoki mushrooms before consuming them due to possible presence of listeria and the risk of severe disease.

While there have not yet been any known cases of listeriosis linked to enoki mushrooms in the UK, analysis of recent FSA and local authority partner sampling and testing data found the presence of listeria monocytogenes in 13 of 40 samples of enoki mushrooms tested, sometimes at high levels.

Listeria continues to be detected in product coming into the UK.
