Thanet Earth is exploring a new scheme to reduce food waste and stop edible produce being sent for composting.

It has applied to trademark the phrase ‘Good Food Not Waste from Thanet Earth’ along with a logo design.

Senior commercial manager Paul Frowde said Thanet had been using the phrase to raise staff awareness, and had registered the logo for the next phase of the initiative. There were no precise plans yet, he added, but “we would like to develop a fresh opportunity locally for a secondary venture that helps make more productive use of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers that we’d otherwise be forced to throw away.”

The phrase had struck a chord with Thanet Earth staff, “and we’ve applied to register this mark as part of the next phase of this initiative,” he added. “Where this leads us is as yet unclear - but we would like to develop a fresh opportunity locally for a secondary venture that helps make more productive use of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers that we’d otherwise be forced to throw away.”
