The investment will help fund new stock, packaging and trademarking

Protein ketchup brand In The Buff is hoping to raise £107k through a Seedrs crowdfunding campaign.

The investment will be in exchange for a 10% share in the business and will help fund production, packaging and marketing, as well as a new member of staff to handle marketing and administration.

In The Buff had recently gained listings at Ocado and Waitrose for its three-strong lineup of Protein Ketchup, which includes Sweet Paprika, Chipotle Spice and Turmeric Fusion variants.

Co-founder Nick Briggs told The Grocer he had also been in talks with a “well-known high street health company” with whom it would “hopefully gain listings” early next year.

He added that he wanted to “support these retailers and get the brand known”, and that by choosing a crowdfunder over alternative methods it would “build organic interest” and reinforce that the brand was “more than a transaction”.

The ketchup is made without any tomatoes other than small amount of tomato purée “just for the colour”. It also contains edamame beans, pea flour, bananas, dates and seasoning. Briggs said it had a “houmous-like consistency” and could be used “hot or cold, in or out”. It would be ideal as a snacking product alongside dipping crisps, he added.
