Confectionery group Glisten has bought certain assets of Penguin Confectionery of Carlisle from House of York for £428,000.

This is Glisten’s third acquisition in six months following its purchase in January of sweet maker F Fravigar and chocolate manufacturer Sunya in October 2003.

Penguin’s range overlaps the existing Fravigar range in wine gums, jelly beans and boiled sweets. Glisten said that the assets being retained by the group would provide new capabilities in the premium pectin-fruit jellies sector.

Glisten will transfer these assets to the freehold site of Fravigar, in Skegness, Lincolnshire during spring 2004.

In the year to September 30, 2003 Penguin reported sales of £4.7m.
