Sainsbury’s late-summer Drinks Festival kicks off this month with a selection of new wines and half-price offers.
The festival, from August 17 to September 13, will showcase 17 new wines including a selection of organic varietals, beers and ciders to celebrate National Organic week in September.
One of the wines on offer is El Burro Kickass Garnacha, reduced from £7.99 to £4.99. “This is a fabulous new Spanish red from the man who brought
you Fat Bastard Chardonnay (Guy Anderson).
“It is a monstrous, full throttle Grenache from the North of Spain,” said Justin Howard-Sneyd, MW, wine buyer at Sainsbury.
The festival’s beer selection includes Schiehallion, reduced from £1.73 to £1.29, which Sainsbury’s beer buyer, Fiona Bayley, described as being “a light refreshing summer drink that is ideal with a barbeque”.
The festival is inspired by the Foire aux Vins run in French supermarkets, where customers are introduced to new wines at substantial discounts.
The nationwide launch of Cains Finest Lager took place at the Great British Beer Festival. The lager previously won first prize at Camra’s Liverpool Beer Festival.

Scottish Courage is continuing to invest in the cider category with the launch of a campaign for its Scrumpy Jack brand. The ‘Bring the Country Back’ campaign will run through this month and next with outdoor, press and radio advertising.

Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye is launching a special anniversary bottling of Talisker malt whisky to celebrate its 175th anniversary.
The birthday bottling will have specially designed labels with a map of Skye printed on the bottle.

The Black Bottle Islay Jazz Festival will be held on September 16-18 on the island of Islay, sponsored by Black Bottle Blended Scotch Whisky from Bunnhabhain Distillery.

Grolsch is offering its trade customers a chance to enjoy the lager on board a Dutch-style canal barge in London throughout this month.
The barge, Jenneken, is docked in East India Dock in Canary Wharf.
