Black Garlic UK has re-branded its black garlic in a bid to appeal to ‘foodie’ customers and home chefs.
Balsajo will roll out to 100 Sainsbury’s stores this month as well as delis, gourmet food stores and health food shops.
The quirky ingredient is made from white garlic but put through a complex aging process that lasts more than a month to create flavours resembling balsamic and liquorice among others.
Prices range from £1.50-1.60 for a one bulb box to £7.99-£8.99 for a 150g pot.
Black Garlic founder Katy Heath said the product had “all the goodness of garlic but thankfully none of the smell.”
