As the UK returns to various degrees of ‘normal’ at a range of speeds, McDonald’s has become one of the first major food companies to unveil an ad with a broadly celebratory tone.
The ad features a range of burger lovers who are excited about being able to indulge in McD’s takeaway, drive-thru and delivery. A mix of home-filmed and professionally shot material reflects some serious euphoria – taking in a wide range of consumers, including one of those weirdos who dips their fries into a milkshake.
People will have their own opinions on whether it’s tonally right, but a bit of positivity is welcome – and the ad is careful to include servers with masks and gloves. What’s inarguable is the perfect choice of soundtrack: Mark Morrison’s Return of the Mack.
