Upmarket sausage brand The Cumbrian Sausage Co has secured its first supermarket business with listings confirmed in Morrisons and Tesco stores in the north of England.

The range had initially only been available through independents, but the company secured listings with Ocado and Waitrose in Dubai last year. A selection of the brand’s sausages went into 40 Tesco stores last weekend, with a further 30 Morrisons stores due to stock its pork breakfast, pork and black pudding and traditional Cumberland sausages from 25 April (rsp: £3/400g).

“We’re the only company producing PGI traditional Cumberland sausages in the county for the multiples,” said founder Oliver Nohl-Oser. “These new listings are great news for the business and have allowed us to grow jobs at our factory in Maryport, which now employs 10 staff.”

Nohl-Oser hoped the listings would herald further business from major supermarkets, and said the brand was also in discussions with Australian supermarket Coles as part of a host of international opportunities.
