Bestway Wholesale’s restructure sees a new retail division bringing together Costcutter and Bestway brands

Bestway Wholesale is restructuring its senior management team following the acquisition of Costcutter, which completed in February.

The move will see a consolidation of the wholesale giant’s retail businesses with Costcutter over the coming weeks.

A new combined retail division will be led by Costcutter retail director Mike Hollis, who becomes Bestway retail director.

The newly created division will bring together the wholesaler’s Crewe based off-licence brands Bargain Booze and Wine Rack, together with its York based convenience-led business, which comprises Costcutter and sub-brands Mace, Kwiksave, Simply Fresh and Supershop, along with with Best-one convenience.

Bestway said it planned to keep Crewe and York, where Hollis would continue to be based, open, along with its Park Royal HQ.

Bestway said Crewe and York would become “centres of excellence” for off-licence and convenience respectively.

Hollis will report directly to Bestway Wholesale MD Dawood Pervez and will oversee an amalgamated management team for the retail business.

It will comprise Best-one’s Paul Adams as head of symbol fascia and Duncan Jelfs, head of franchise together with Costcutter’s Clive Banks as head of corporate services, Frankie Haynes as head of central operations and Jamie Davison as head of store recruitment and development.

Meanwhile finance, procurement, fleet, insurance and legal services will be managed centrally.

Trading director Kenton Burchell will take up a new role of group trading director. Burchell will be responsible for overseeing the buying and marketing teams, which will also now be managed centrally for all cash & carry, convenience, off-licence, catering, pet specialist and export customers.

“Our new structure will undoubtedly continue to shape and evolve over the coming months whilst unlocking customer value and streamlining efficiencies within the combined business,” said Pervez. “We believe that we now have the talent and resources in place to partner with our retailers, support them, and help them grow in a dynamic marketplace.

“Bestway is the leading voice for independent retailers in the UK. The breadth of our offer means that we are a genuine force in the market and can now meet the needs of any retailer.”

The changes have been led by Bestway Wholesale COO Naser Khan who was put in charge of integrating Costcutter into Bestway earlier this year.
