Salters has worked for the WKD, Shloer and Bottlegreen owner for 27 years

Fmcg giant SHS Group has appointed Karen Salters as group chair.

SHS veteran Salters has worked for the WKD, Shloer and Bottlegreen owner for 27 years, spanning roles including marketing director and joint MD of its drinks division.

She has also sat on the company’s board for more than a decade and represented it on trade body networks.

Salters said she looked forward to “working closely with SHS group CEO Elaine Birchall to fulfil the group’s Vision 25 ambitions” - SHS’ five-year plan the business said was “centred on growing great brands, delivering excellence, securing our futures and winning with teams which will steer the business towards a strong, secure and sustainable future”.

It was a “hugely exciting time to take on the role of group chair, as SHS Group builds on the incredible resilience it has demonstrated during the pandemic and embarks on the next chapter of its evolution”, she added.

“We have established an enviable range of owned and agency brands, alongside our private label offering, which will steer the business towards a strong, secure and sustainable future.”

As well as drinks, SHS also supplies fmcg brands such as Meridian’s range of nut butters, and distributes the likes of Ryvita, Pot Noodle, Finish, Dettol, Mars Drinks and Colgate. It currently employs over 1,200 people with a turnover of more than £640m.

Last year its CEO Elaine Birchall was awarded an honorary MBE for her services to economic development in Northern Ireland

March saw the business embark on a major expansion of its WKD brand into caffeinated alcoholic beverages with the launch of WKD X, a duo of 7% abv drinks blending caffeine, guarana and taurine.
