Stephen Hann will focus on the brand’s new Nourish & Protect range

DTC petfood pioneer Tails.com has officially unveiled its first retail director as it makes its debut in supermarkets.

Stephen Hann will focus on the brand’s new Nourish & Protect range, which rolled into Sainsbury’s last month.

He joins with a wealth of experience in fmcg, having most recently spent five years at Graze, helping to scale retail to become the business’ largest channel ahead of its 2019 sale to Unilever. He reached the position of MD for UK retail.

Hann previously worked for Danone – in roles including Morrisons national account director and independent retail NAM – and Kraft Heinz, where he held national account controller positions for Tesco, Sainsbury’s and impulse.

Hann quietly joined Tails.com last year, working with the team to explore and build a retail proposition. The brand had “been blazing a trail for some time and I’m thrilled to have joined them” he said. “There is a clear opportunity to take our expert nutritional and veterinary experience and translate it into a retail environment for supermarket shoppers.”

Tails.com COO Paolo Woods-Wyatt said the business had “focused on changing the way petfood works to help improve the lives of dogs and their owners”.

There was “an appetite for those who want to shop in-store to have access to advanced nutrition for their dogs,” he added. “With Stephen on board, we’re set to explore how we develop an innovative concept for supermarkets, their customers and their dogs.”

Tails.com’s 22-strong Nourish & Protect lineup made its debut on 19 February, comprising wet and dry food – from 2kg bags of kibbles and multipacks of 400g cans to single 150g foil trays. It is available from 108 Sainsbury’s supermarkets via the grocer’s Future Brands initiative.
