Tesco has appointed the former managing director of Bain Capital, Melissa Bethell as a non-executive director.
Bethell, who will take up her role on 24 September and also become a member of the Audit Committee, is managing partner of Atairos Europe, an investment fund backed by Comcast NBC Universal.
Tesco said she brought with her “extensive executive and non-executive financial, technology and strategic experience”.
Bethell was boss of global private equity firm Bain for more than 18 years and a member of the senior leadership team responsible for strategy setting, fundraising and portfolio management. She remains a senior advisor. Prior to joining Bain, she worked in the capital markets group at Goldman Sachs, with a focus on media and technology.
Born in Taiwan, she received an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School and a BA with honours in Economics and Political Science from Stanford University.
“I am delighted to welcome Melissa to the board as a non-executive director. Her broad range of skills and experience will be of significant benefit to the board as we implement our strategy. The board and I very much look forward to working with her over the coming years,” said Tesco chairman John Allan.
