What was your first-ever job? ‘Saturday girl’ in a specialist cheese shop.

What’s been your worst job interview? It was for an internal move within Tesco - the interview panel concluded that I could do the job but they didn’t think I wanted it! They were right.

What was the first music single you bought? Kids in America by Kim Wilde.

How do you describe your job to your mates? I run a Fairtrade nut company - doing business and doing good.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? The direct contact with producer organisations who supply us and own 44% of Liberation.

What is the least rewarding part? Explaining to producers that volumes are down due to a ranging decision taken by a supermarket that I can do nothing about.

What is your motto? ‘If in doubt do nowt’ - it’s a Lancashire expression that helps me to take a step back and think things through.

What’s your nickname? My running buddies call me ‘Katie Basket’, the name the commentator at a 10k race yelled over the loudspeaker.

What’s your favourite movie and why? Monsoon Wedding - it transports me to another continent and makes me laugh and cry.

What’s been the most embarrassing moment in your life? One week into a new job sending an email to the MD saying ‘it was great to see you, you forgot your toothbrush’… I meant to send it to my mate who had been to stay for the weekend.

Do you have any phobias? I’m not so great with heights since I broke my foot doing a charity parachute jump.

If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? If only she were still alive it would be Anita Roddick for her passion, energy and vision.

If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? I would have all the big retailers fund supply chain developments that could demonstrate a wider benefit.

What luxury would you have on your desert island? Pen and paper so I could keep busy by seeing if I really can write that bestselling novel.

What animal best reflects your personality and why? A lioness, as I seem pretty calm most of the time but if anyone threatens my territory then you will hear me roar!
