Nestlé has written off millions of pounds as it withdraws its flagship LC1 Go! probiotic milk drink from the UK and France. The company invested heavily in print and TV marketing of the fermented dairy drink which was introduced in the UK in 1998. But it lost out heavily to rivals Yakult and Danone both here and in France. Sainsbury, Tesco and Carrefour had already delisted it. But performance in Italy and Germany has been more encouraging. The flop of the lynchpin LC1 Go! leaves Nestlé's strategy of becoming a market leading force in functional foods in jeopardy. Nestle also withdrew LC1 set eating yogurt from sale in the UK this year. {{NEWS }}
