Each kit contains enough to make two to four patties

Edible insect brand Bug has unveiled a bean & mealworm burger recipe kit.

The London-based startup has developed the recipe as an alternative to meat-based burgers, with each patty billed as saving 1.6kg CO2e and 680 litres of water when compared with a 125g beef patty (rsp: £12).

CEO and co-founder Leo Taylor said Bug had “worked hard to find a recipe that brings a real meaty look to the burger and has a good, dense bite”.

Kits make two to four patties and contain recipe cards Bug said would “encourage experimentation”. For example, the burger kit includes a cricket and kale pesto rigatoni recipe.
