The razor comes with recyclable metal stand designed to keep the razor upright

Bulldog Skincare has expanded its selection of sustainable personal care products with a razor made from recycled glass.

Available in Original and Sensitive variants, the razor’s handle was “crafted using at least 70% recycled glass from durable beer bottles and is fully recyclable” said Bulldog. It comes with a pivoting head featuring five tempered steel blades and a lubrication strip.

The premium NPD (rsp: £15) is packed in recycled card along with a recyclable metal stand designed to keep the razor upright and help its blades stay dry.

Bulldog’s latest launch, available exclusively from Boots, was “designed for men who want a quality shave from a beautifully crafted, environmentally conscious razor they can show off on the bathroom shelf” the brand said.

The lockdown look: male grooming category report 2020

Glass Razor joins other environmentally conscious Bulldog lines, including Bamboo Razor, plastic-free bar soap, and various products packed in either in bio-plastic or recycled plastic.

Sustainability needed to be a key concern for personal care suppliers, suggested Bulldog general manager Caroline Mallet. “For too long, the shaving industry has focused thoughtlessly on making razors sharper and easier to order online. We don’t think that’s enough. That’s why we’re continuing to challenge the category with the launch of our new Original and Sensitive Glass Razors.”

The launch follows a disappointing lockdown period for shave brands in grocery. Values sales of razors and blades fell by 14% in the 12 weeks to 14 June 2020 [Kantar], while shaving preparations dipped by 3.7%.

However, Bulldog bucked the downward trend by adding 3.2% to the value of its shave range [Nielsen 12 w/e 13 June 2020].
