The range rolled into 300 Sainsbury’s stores as part of the retailer’s Future Brands programme on 26 January

Carluccio’s is launching a 16-strong range of chilled restaurant-inspired lines into Sainsbury’s.

The range spans a trio of fresh filled pasta varieties – ravioli, mezzelune and girasoli – made with Italian pasta brand Bertangi. It also includes two stir-in pasta sauces, a selection of 12-inch pizzas and six ready meals, including lasagne and tagliatelle dishes.

It will roll into 300 Sainsbury’s stores as part of the retailer’s Future Brands programme on 26 January (rsp: £2-£6.50).

“From listening to customers, we know people would like to access our brands more regularly as part of their eating-at-home occasions,” said Boparan Restaurant Group marketing and communications MD Phil Neale.

The range includes four twelve-inch wood fired pizzas and a Garlic & Mozzarella Bread

The new chilled range would allow the business to “bring them high-quality dishes inspired by our restaurants into their own home”, he added.

Sainsbury’s meal solutions buyer India Moore said the brand partnership would offer a “point of difference” for customers.

Previous tie-ups with casual dining brands - most notably Leon and Zizzi - have worked well for Sainsbury’s.

Since launching a range of table sauces, oils and sourdough loaves into the retailer in 2019, Leon has expanded its Sainsbury’s-exclusive offering to include salads, chilled soups and coffee. Value sales of its table sauces alone were up 20.7% to £2m in the 52 weeks to 11 September 2021 [NielsenIQ].

Zizzi, meanwhile, generated £1m in sales of its Sainsbury’s frozen pizza line within its first 10 months on the market [Kantar 52 w/e 17 July 2021].
