The lager will roll into Matthew Clark and Booths from January

Fledlging non-alcoholic booze brand Drynks Unlimited has created its first lager.

The 0.05% abv Smashed Lager is billed as having a “clean taste which perfectly balances with a hint of barley malt, complex aromatic floral notes and mild hoppy bitterness”.

It is made by taking a 5% lager brewed by Stockport-based Robinsons Brewery specifically for Drynks Unlimited, which is then dealcoholised in Drynks’ cool vacuum distil plant (which is housed in Robinsons’ brewery). The base alcoholic liquid is not available to the public, and is made as part of an ongoing partnership between the two brands.

Cool vacuum distilling “gently dealcoholises premium craft drinks without affecting the flavour and aromas in the original, fully alcoholic beer and cider”, said the brand. It could reduce the alcohol content of a drink to 0.05% – rather than many competitors, which come in at 0.5%. It can take up to eight days to produce a bottle.

The brew will roll out in 330ml bottles and cans into Matthew Clark, Booths and assorted wholesalers from January (rsp: £1.99 - £2.19).

“Since we built the UK’s first and currently only cool vacuum distil in Robinsons’ Brewery, we’ve been busy producing what we believe to be some of the best truly alcohol-free drinks on the market,” said Drynks Unlimited founder Richard Clark.

“We are so confident in the premium craft 0% drinks we are producing that it was the natural step to add a Smashed Lager to our portfolio, which will help us compete with the category leaders.”
