Two of the seven-strong range have secured listings with Morrisons

Speciality cheese producer Eurilait has unveiled a new barbecuing cheese brand in a bid to capture the growing meat-free market.

Its new Al Fresco brand is due to roll out this summer, with a range of cheeses aiming to displace halloumi as the go-to cheese for grilling. Featuring Bavarian-style smoked cheese steaks (rsp: £2.50) and sausages (rsp: £2.75) “designed not to melt” on the barbecue, both products come in plain and chilli flavours.

The brand has secured its first listings in Morrisons, which is set to list the German-produced plain sausages and Austrian-made chilli steaks from 13 May.

The full range, comprising seven products, also features two variants of camembert (rsp: £2.99) – one plain, one with sweet honey & thyme sauce – and a feta with Moroccan-spiced harissa sauce (rsp: £2.99), produced in France and Greece respectively.

“More and more people are reducing their meat consumption – according to The Vegan Society, demand for meat-free food increased 987% in 2017,” said a spokeswoman for the brand.

“So imagine cheese ‘steaks’ you can put straight on the barbecue and ‘cheese’ sausages. They’re easy to cook and can simply be served with salad and relish in a bun. Everyone can enjoy them but they’re perfect for flexitarians and vegetarians.”
