Halewood Wines & Spirits-owned John Crabbie & Co has unveiled a new 12-year-old peated single-malt whisky.

The recently resurrected whisky brand, for which Halewood is currently building a £7m distillery in Edinburgh, sourced the “exceptional aged expression” from an unnamed distillery to bottle under the Crabbie name (rsp: £35/70cl).

The 43% abv whisky was a “glowing amber, lightly peated” dram with “deeply malty and fresh aromas at first, followed with notes of green grass and citrus”, said the brand. It delivered “a distinctive rich flavour with a bittersweet balance, tailed by a touch of sweet honey, grilled orange and green tea, before a long-lasting smoke finish”, it added.

John Crabbie & Co managing director David Brown said the launch “adds another dimension to our renowned portfolio” while “staying true to our brand legacy”.

Halewood marked the rebirth of John Crabbie & Co last year with a duo of 30-year-old and eight-year-old single malts, and the brand has hinted at further releases to follow before the end of 2018.
