mackies scotland popcorn

Mackie’s of Scotland is expanding its snacking portfolio with its first range of popcorn.

The four-strong range will be rolled out to Sainsbury’s stores across Scotland from 4 January in Scotch Bonnet Chilli Pepper, Butterscotch, Lightly Sea Salted and Sweet & Salted flavours. The latter will be available in 100g bags while the remaining trio will come in a 70g format (rsp: £1.59).

In development for a year, the quartet would tap demand for “delicious and creative” flavour sensations, said MD George Taylor, adding the new lines would complement the existing Mackie’s crisps and ice cream ranges.

“In trials, we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our consumers with some stating that they enjoyed the more adventurous flavours because it’s what has become expected from our forward-thinking brand.”

The business was targeting listings with the major retailers across the UK with the aim of securing distribution with those during the next year, said Taylor.

Mackie’s will be hoping the popcorn line enjoys the same success as its premium crisps which, launched in June 2009, are listed by all major retailers in Scotland alongside Asda stores across the UK.

It is supporting the NPD with a two-week experiential event that kicks off on 7 January across Glasgow and Edinburgh. Customers will be invited to try the product alongside a chance of winning a “fun prize” by popping branded balloons set loose across the cities.
