Three retail coffee bags have hit Amazon

Pret is kicking off a major move into retail with a trio of organic coffees.

The trio comprises three bags of coffee, including Organic Classic Blend Ground Coffee (rsp: £9.50/500g), Organic Single Origin Peruvian Ground Coffee (rsp: £9.50/500g) and Organic Espresso Beans (rsp: £16.99/1kg).

The classic blend is the signature filter blend used in Pret stores, and includes beans grown and picked in Peru, Honduras, Sumatra and Ethiopia, which when combined offered “delicious praline and caramel notes”, said Pret.

The single-origin Peruvian SKU, meanwhile, was “for those looking for something a little more complex”, Pret added, and had a flavour profile of citrus and stone fruit.

They have launched for pre-order on Amazon and will ship, as well as hitting Pret stores, on Monday 18 May.

It marked the beginning of a wider retail offering, with more products “under development for future release”, said Pret.

Its rivals Costa and Starbucks are already major players in fmcg: Starbucks has licensing deals with Nestlé and Arla, while Costa, after being bought by Coca-Cola in 2018, made its first play in RTD drinks last year.

Pret reopened 100 of its stores across London and the UK for takeaway and delivery via third-party platforms including Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats this morning (11 May).

It follows an initial opening of 10 London stores on 16 April, which then increased to 30 stores on 1 May.
