Miso Ramen Broth and Chilli Ramen Broth will roll into Amazon and independent retailers this month (rsp: £3/500ml)

Seaweed snacking brand Shore is launching a duo of ambient ramen broths following a six-figure cash injection.

Miso Ramen Broth and Chilli Ramen Broth, both made from Scottish coastline seaweed, will roll into Amazon and independent retailers this month (rsp: £3/500ml).

They would plug the gap in the market between “poorer-quality concentrates and powdered ramen products and the restaurant experience”, said Shore.

The innovation had “tested fantastically with our consumers”, claimed Shore joint MD Keith Paterson.

Its launch furthered the brand’s “mission to create an edible seaweed industry of scale, that is 100% sustainable, good for the coastal environment and beneficial for our local rural communities”, Paterson added.

The brand is also expanding its Seaweed Chips range – which currently comprises Sweet Sriracha, Lightly Salted and Peking Duck – with a new Smoky Barbecue flavour.

The flurry of NPD follows an equity fundraising round from the business’s biggest shareholders.

Shore said part of the investment would also be used by its Wick-based owner, New Wave Foods, to drive forward “ambitious sustainable production” plans for Scottish seaweed, including farming at its site near Oban, and expand distribution.

Shore’s Seaweed Chips are stocked by a range of wholesalers and retailers including Morrisons, Holland & Barrett and Booths.
