The products come hot on the heels of Le Rond, a camembert-flavoured cheese alternative launched by Violife earlier this month

Upfield has expanded its dairy-free Violife brand with a pair of cheese alternatives.

Tex Mex Flavour Grated (180g) and Mozzarella Flavour Slices (160g) have rolled into Waitrose, each with an rsp of £2.65.

The spicy Tex Mex variant had “stretch” and “punchy flavour”, said Upfield, and was suitable for use in dishes such as fajitas and bean chilli.

Like the new mozzarella slices, the grated cheese substitute is made with coconut oil and can also be eaten straight from the packet.

The vitamin B12-fortified vegan products come hot on the heels of Le Rond, a camembert-flavoured cheese alternative launched by Violife earlier this month.

The brand rolled out spread and butter substitutes earlier this autumn, while a vegan dairy cream alternative called Viocreme also joined the family.

“At Violife, we’re proud to offer customers new flavours to be enjoyed with loved ones,” said Bianca Harris, Violife senior marketing manager.

“We’re committed to continue innovating the dairy alternatives category, and new flavours like the Tex Mex Flavour Grated and Mozzarella Flavour Slices are part of our ongoing mission to provide customers with 100% vegan alternatives that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Violife was snapped up last year by Flora owner Upfield in a €500m deal, with the supplier’s group CEO David Haines saying the acquisition would “continue to drive exciting growth and innovation in the plant-based food sector”.
