Will Barstow, Aldi

Will Barstow has been at Aldi for 22 years

Aldi has appointed a new national buying MD, promoting group buying director Will Barstow to the post.

Barstow replaces Stephen Eivers, who recently left Aldi after 28 years with the business, including the last year as national buying MD.

Barstow has been with Aldi for over 22 years, initially joining as an area manager. As group buying director, he held responsibility for chilled foods, fresh meat, fresh & frozen fish, poultry, dairy, eggs and vegan. He also spent nine years in Aldi buying director roles, covering ambient, fresh meat and beer, wines and spirits categories.

The national buying MD post is among Aldi’s most high-profile roles. Julie Ashfield, whom Eivers replaced in the post in January, became one of the best-known faces in UK grocery, appearing in two series of the Channel 4 show Aldi’s Next Big Thing, before her promotion to her current role of chief commercial officer.

Eivers joined Aldi as an area manager in 1997, according to his LinkedIn profile. He served as group buying director for Aldi USA from 2007 until 2010, when he returned as group buying director for Aldi UK. He was MD for customer interaction from 2015 until his appointment as national buying MD in January.
