Aldi’s new rapid grocery delivery service has gone live on Deliveroo.
Customers living near the eight pilot stores can order from a range of around 2,000 Aldi products to be brought to their door in minutes as of today (6 October).
As reported by The Grocer last month, the orders are picked by couriers in the stores, in a new-to-the UK model for Deliveroo.
It is Aldi’s second attempt at rapid delivery with the company, having last rolled out a similar service – but with store staff doing the picking – from over 100 supermarkets between 2020 and 2022.
Aldi UK CEO Giles Hurley recently told The Grocer the new courier-picking model would protect Aldi’s operational efficiency and help it keep prices low.
Couriers will be guided through each order by the Deliveroo rider app, scanning products before paying with a prepaid rider card.
Aldi on Deliveroo: a logical step or sign of weakness?
“Customers tell us they want shopping to be as convenient as possible, so launching this service with Deliveroo is a great opportunity to make it even easier to shop at Aldi.,” said Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield.
“From tomorrow, shoppers will be able to get their Aldi favourites delivered straight to their door, while enjoying the award-winning quality and market-leading value they expect from us.”
Deliveroo chief revenue officer Rob Harris said: “We are excited to welcome Aldi to the Deliveroo platform through a brand-new service, Shop & Deliver. Consumers in several locations across the country will now be able to enjoy Aldi’s great value and selection delivered to their doorstep on-demand.”
