‘We know customers are continuing to feel the pressure,’ said Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield

Aldi has invested more than £22m in January price cuts across everyday products from frozen food to cupboard staples and household essentials.

The discounter has listed examples including red lentils reduced from £1.39 to 99p, porridge sachets cut from 99p to 79p, and organic oats slashed from £2.19 to £1.99.

No Beef Flank Steak and Vegetable Pieces & Meatballs have both been cut by 50p, to £6.99 and £1.49 respectively.

Other examples provided are Beef & Pork Bolognese Mince dopped from £4.79 to £4.49, Pork & Gammon Joints cut from £3.99 to £3.49, Specially Selected British Cheese reduced from £2.59 to £2.29, Sweetcorn cut by 4p to 55p, and six large free-range eggs now £1.75, down from £1.79.

“We know that customers are continuing to feel the pressure of the weekly shop, which is why we’re constantly reviewing prices across our range to ensure we offer our customers the lowest possible prices,” said Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield.

“These latest price reductions cover hundreds of everyday products, including a number of healthy options, and form part of our ongoing commitment to delivering great value without compromising on quality.”

Aldi was the cheapest supermarket in the Super Grocer 33 basket comparison in January, beating runner-up Lidl by 1.1%, at £55.49 vs £56.10. 

Latest monthly figures from Worldpanel today showed grocery price inflation was 4% in the four weeks to 25 January, the lowest level since April last year. Aldi’s sales were up 3.8% year on year in the 12 weeks to 25 January, leaving its market share unmoved at 10.1%.
