Aldi is investing £370m in new stores this year

Aldi has revealed the locations of its next 16 planned store openings across the UK.

Areas in line to get a new Aldi over the coming months include Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands.

Aldi currently has about 1,080 UK stores and is aiming to eventually grow the number to 1,500, including 40 set to open throughout 2026.

The discounter is investing £1.6bn in UK expansion over 2025 and 2026, including £370m in new stores this year. Last month it also began deliveries to stores from a new £500m, 1.3m sq ft automated warehouse in Bardon, Leicestershire, claimed to be Britain’s largest food distribution centre.

“We’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK,” said Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK MD of national real estate.

“Our £370m investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”

Despite the expansion, Aldi’s market share has been slipping recently. Latest Worldpanel by Numerator data put it at 10.8% in the 12 weeks to 17 May 2026, down from 11% a year earlier. Aldi’s sales were up by just 0.6% year on year, compared with the total grocery market’s 2.3% growth.
