
All stores and the head office of The Original Factory Shop have closed, administrators for the variety discount chain have confirmed.
TOFS entered administration in January, with its PE owner Modella Capital – also owner of TG Jones – blaming weak consumer confidence and “adverse government fiscal policies”. It had 137 stores and employed 1,180 people at the time.
Administrator Interpath confirmed the last stores closed on 4 April. “A phased closure of the store portfolio was implemented considering the financial position,” said a spokesperson.

“Without any viable offers to take the business forward, it was not possible for The Original Factory Shop to continue trading and all remaining stores were closed on 4 April 2026.
“The majority of employees have been made redundant, while a small number of staff have been retained to assist the joint administrators in their duties as they move towards formally winding up the business.
“A specialist team is in place to support impacted staff with making Redundancy Payments Service claims.”
The Orginal Factory Shop had been trading since 1969 and had 180 stores when Modella bought it in February 2025. It entered a company voluntary arrangement in April 2025 in which a number were closed.
