Asda has announced its charity foundation awarded £3.2m in grants for local community groups in its 2024 programme.
The Asda Foundation Impact Report reveals it gave more than 2,600 grants to a large range of community groups in the period.
They included investment to prevent the closure of at risk community centres, refurbishing outdoor spaces and investment in services working to combat isolation and loneliness.
Since it began 36 years ago, the Asda Foundation has awarded over £57m of funding.
Its next move, next month, will be to open a Local Community Spaces Fund, with up to £1.25m available.
The report also highlighted food poverty as a key area in which Asda’s community efforts have helped, with £265,000 awarded by the foundation to 271 food distributors across the UK ahead of the winter months last year.
“It’s days like today that really helps us to showcase the important work we do to help many grassroots groups and charities across the UK,” said Karl Doyle, chair of the Asda Foundation charity.
“Thank you to the grassroots groups and charities who work tirelessly to make a positive difference for the people and communities who need it most. We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved together in 2024 and are looking forward to continuing our support for communities across the UK.”
