Asda is handing out thousands of free flowers to shoppers ahead of Mother’s Day, in its latest bid to drive up seasonal footfall.
On 14 March, shoppers will be able to claim a free bunch of daffodils at 550 Asda supermarkets around the UK.
To claim their free bouquet, shoppers need to find the store community champion and say the phrase “mum’s the word”. Asda said the offer would run while stocks last. It is limited to 80 bunches per store, one per customer.
“We know all too well that mums can often put themselves last, and so this Mother’s Day we’re here to change that,” said an Asda spokeswoman. “We’re celebrating mums up and down the country the Asda way.
“Because even though they always say, ‘don’t worry about me’, this time we absolutely are. We’re giving away fresh daffodils in 550 stores nationwide to make sure every mum feels appreciated. Just pop into your local Asda, say “mum’s the word”, and pick up a bunch on us,” the spokeswoman added.

Asda launched its Mother’s Day range last week, as supermarkets step up preparations for the seasonal event on Sunday 15 March.
It’s also running its Rollback price cut campaign across key lines to make a Sunday roast, as well as products like chocolates, wine, tea and scented candles.
Following a disastrous Christmas in which it was the only supermarket to lose market share, Asda’s sales bleed has slowed, with its market share down 2.6% in the 12 weeks to 22 February according to the latest data from Worldpanel by Numerator. It was an improvement on the 3.7% fall in the 12 weeks to 25 January.
The supermarket is set to report full-year results on 27 March.
It comes as a report by Fairtrade revealed that most flowers sold on Mother’s Day are grown by workers in “harsh conditions”.
