Weight loss drugs

Asda Online Doctor has grown by more than 50% year on year as customers turn to it for weight loss support and other services.

Asda was the first supermarket to offer an entirely online medical arm when it partnered with Zava in 2021.

Based on analysis of the spending of 180,000 consumers, Spendmapper estimates that monthly turnover at Asda Online Doctor has surpassed £20m each month since June 2025.

“Since launching five years ago, we’ve supported more than 800,000 patients through over three million private consultations, and the business is growing strongly – up over 50% year on year – as more people seek convenient, trusted and great-value healthcare,” Faye Breckons, head of healthcare services at Asda, told The Grocer.

“Asda is far more than just a supermarket, and the strong growth of our Asda Online Doctor business, alongside our pharmacy and optical services, shows how we’re building a broad health and wellness offer to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.”

The average transaction was for £162, indicating a high proportion of the sales were for GLP-1 medications Mounjaro or Wegovy, Spendmapper said.

At the time of writing Asda sold the lowest dose of Mounjaro (2.5ml) for £148.97 for four weeks’ supply, with a £20 discount for new customers. Patients can collect orders from Asda’s pharmacies or opt for home delivery.

Morrisons Clinic, the only other supermarket to sell the drug, offers it for £169 or £149 for new customers.

Breckons said: “While GLP‑1 weight management treatments have played an important role in that growth, they are part of a much wider and fast-growing healthcare offer. We’re seeing our customers increasingly turn to Asda Online Doctor for a broad range of services beyond weight management. Our customers know that through our services they can access expert advice and treatment they can trust, combined with our heritage in unbeatable value.”

“This, alongside our competitive prices, first-to-market innovation and the convenience of accessing services easily online or in-store, continues to make Asda Online Doctor a strong choice – and stands us in a good stead for continued growth.”

The company said it anticipated strong demand for Wegovy pills, which will be available in the UK for the first time in coming weeks after receiving regulatory approval.

Its survey of 1,800 people who said they were overweight found 29% “would pay a premium to avoid needles”, while 53% of those aged 25 to 34 were put off by self-injection.
