Asda is piloting a new loyalty feature that allows shoppers to earn larger cash pots and save on fuel, in the latest expansion of its Rewards loyalty programme.
The new feature, called Rewards Plus, will be rolled out to shoppers in Scotland throughout October, as part of a pilot that will inform the ongoing development of the Rewards loyalty programme, The Grocer understands.
Sitting alongside the existing Rewards missions, coupons and games, Rewards Plus enables shoppers to unlock different benefits when they pass four different spending levels in store and online.
The thresholds start at £25 and end at £300.
If a shopper spends £25 during the month, they will have £1 added to their cash pot. If they reach £75 they will unlock a voucher giving them 5p per litre off of fuel at an Asda forecourt.
Spend £150 and they will earn an additional bonus mission that lets them earn £5 for their cash pot when they spend £15 on George clothing or home products. Finally, if they spend £300, the can earn 10% of the value of their next shop back into their cash pot, up to a value of £10.
Overall, they’ll be able to earn the equivalent of £16 a month, as well as some additional fuel saving vouchers, Asda said.
“Rewards Plus is a new way for customers to get more value from their everyday shopping,” said Asda customer data and loyalty director Chris Chalmers.
“Whether that’s fuel savings, money off or cash pot rewards, it unlocks extra value throughout the month on the shopping they’re already doing at Asda. We look forward to seeing customers in Scotland get their hands on Rewards Plus and make the most of everything it has to offer.”
Asda has not confirmed whether it intends to introduce the feature to shoppers in the rest of the UK.
It’s the latest expansion of the Asda Rewards loyalty scheme under Chalmers and customer director Rachel Eyre, as they bid to win back Asda shoppers.
In July, Asda linked the scheme to its petrol forecourts for the first time, giving shoppers 5p off per litre every time they spent £40. The benefit was extended in September.
The fuel saving was followed later in July by the launch of new “hyper-personalised” missions and coupons which give shoppers money off or tailored spending missions to earn money for their cash pots on the products they buy most often.
