Bacardí has completed the purchase of Teeling Whiskey for an undisclosed sum.
The family-owned spirits group has been steadily increasing its holding in Teeling, having acquired a minority stake in the Irish whiskey brand in 2017. It became the majority shareholder in 2022.
In the past decade, Teeling had “more than doubled in size and significantly grown its global presence”, Bacardí said, adding the whiskey was now sold in more than 80 markets globally.
Following the transaction, Teeling founders Jack and Stephen Teeling would remain “a part of the brand” helping to shape its future as “strategic advisors”, it added.
“Teeling is the perfect fit for Bacardí,” said Bacardí CEO Mahesh Madhavan. “The brand stands for quality, craftsmanship and a fearless approach to the category with fresh ideas and innovative new whiskeys.
“There is so much long-term potential for the Irish whiskey category globally and with Teeling we are perfectly positioned to take advantage of every opportunity.”
Teeling Whiskey is sold in Waitrose and on Ocado, as well as in Tesco stores in Ireland, according to Assosia data.
The brand was founded in 2012 and in 2015 opened Dublin’s first new distillery for more than 125 years.
It joins brands including Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire and Patrón Tequila in the Bacardí stable.
